STARTING _______________________________________________________________
IMPORTANT:
Do not use starting assist fluids.
Use of
such fluids in the air intake system may be potentially
explosive or cause a “Runaway” engine condition and
could result in serious engine damage.
1.
Make sure fuel shut off valve is completely open.
2.
Manual Transmission:
Sit in operator’s seat, make
sure the parking brake is engaged and transmission
is in neutral.

Depress clutch pedal.

4.2 and 5.2]
Automatic Transmission:
Sit in operator’s seat,
make sure the parking brake is engaged and
transmission is in Park (P)
.
3.
Turn ignition switch
(M)
to
ON
position.
a.
Engine Oil light
(G)
will come on and will stay on
until engine starts.
b.
Diesel Engine:
Glow plug light
(H)
will come on
for up to 20 seconds.
c.
Parking brake light
(K)
will be on when parking
brake is engaged.
4.
Diesel Engine:
The diesel engine uses glow plugs
to pre-heat the combustion chamber and makes
cold starting easier. When starting the vehicle for
the first time during the day, or when the engine has
cooled, you will need to energize the glow plugs to
start the engine. Energizing glow plugs is not
necessary when starting a warm engine. When glow
plug light
(H)
turns off, turn key
(M)
to
START
position. Release as soon as engine starts. Do not
hold switch in the
START
position for more than 15
seconds. Make sure engine oil light
(G)
turns off.

5.
Allow the engine to become warm and properly
lubricated before operating at high RPM.
