THE QUEST
FOR THE PERFECT
CUP OF COFFEE
Element 1: W
ater
Cof
fee is 98% water
. The quality of that
water is as important as the quality of
your cof
fee. If water doesn’
t taste good
fr
om the tap, it won’
t taste good in your
cof
fee. Cuisinart includes a char
coal
water filter to r
emove chlorine, bad
tastes and odors, for the pur
est cof
fee
flavor
, every time you br
ew
.
Element 2: Cof
fee
While cof
fee is 98% water
, all of the
flavor comes fr
om the beans. T
o
achieve the same gr
eat taste you enjoy
at a cof
fee bar
, you need to use the
same quality of cof
fee. If you choose to
grind your own beans, buy them fr
esh
and whole. Buy only about a two-week
supply at a time, because once the
bean is br
oken, its flavor degrades
quickly
.
Element 3: Grind
The grind is critical for pr
oper flavour
extraction. If the grind is too fine, over
-
extraction and bitter
ness will r
esult. T
oo
fine a grind may also clog the filter
. If
grind is too coarse, the water will pass
thr
ough too quickly and the maximum
flavour will not be extracted. When
grinding your own beans, we
recommend a medium-fine grind.
Element 4: Pr
oportion
Cof
fee that is too str
ong or too weak is
always a disappointment. Follow the
recommended portions of gr
ound cof
fee
in the instructions under MAKING
COFFEE below
, and later adjust the
amount to suit your taste.
