Using the USB Port
The USB port allows data from the INVOS™ system to be transferred to a USB flash drive. The com-
munication protocol is designed to support a Covidien USB flash drive provided at the time of
purchase. Additional USB flash drives are available from Covidien. A special USB flash drive may
also be used to provide software upgrades for the INVOS™ system.
The USB flash drive supplements the storage function available in the INVOS™ system and offers
the additional benefits of greater capacity and selectable storage rates on a nonvolatile medium.
The USB flash drive allows cases containing rSO

data to be stored for future review, graphing, and
archiving. It supports the following features and functions:

Hi-speed USB 2.0 certified and backwards compatible with all USB 1.1 ports

Compatible with Windows™* ME, 2000, XP, macOS

9.1.x+, macOS

X v10.1.2+ operating systems.
Note:
The USB flash drive should be inserted when the case begins to capture real-time data to the USB. Keep
the USB flash drive inserted for the full duration of the case. If removed, there will be gaps in the case data
collected. Regardless of USB flash drive usage, the INVOS™ system monitors and stores data to its internal
memory, so entire cases can be downloaded in the case history format (see sections

As a reminder to insert the USB, the blinking message “USB FLASH DRIVE NOT CONNECTED” will appear on
the Start screen when the system is turned on. USB flash drives not supplied by Covidien may not meet
system requirements. Additional drives may be ordered from Covidien (see section
7.3.1
USB Port Output—Case Archive Function
When the INVOS™ system is operating in Case archive function, stored cases may be downloaded
to the USB flash drive in case history formats (see sections
). Up to 28 separate cases will be stored for downloading in the Case
archive file list.
