3. General inf ormat ion
3.1. General information
Contracor abrasive blast cabinet encloses the blasting environment to provide efÀcient
blast cleaning while maintaining a clean surrounding work area.
Production rates of the blast cabinets are dependent on size of nozzle, compressor
capacity, working pressure, type and size of abrasive media and distance between the nozzle
and the cleaning surface.
Contracor ECO-series suction type blast cabinets consist of two modules:
1. Ruggedly built welded steel cabinet enclosure.
2. Dust collector with highly efÀcient fan and manually cleaned cartridge Àlter.
An automatic pulse cleaned dust collector is available as an option.
3.2. Theory of operation
When the air supply is on, and the cabinet doors are closed, the blast cabinet is ready
for operation by actuating the foot pedal. Fully depressing the foot pedal causes air to Áow
through the blast gun. Air moving through the gun draws media into the blast gun mixing
chamber. The media mixes with the air and is propelled out the nozzle.
After striking the object being blasted, the blast media, along with Ànes, dust, and by-
products generated by blasting, fall through the mesh screen into the cabinet hopper. The
blast media metering valve is located on the cabinet hopper, for accurate adjustment of the
blast media/ air mixture.
When the foot pedal is released, the blasting stops. The dust collector Àlter cartridge
is cleaned by opening a ball valve, expanding compressed air at high velocity against the
inner surface of the cartridge.. The expanding air momentarily reverses airÁow through the
cartridge to release dust accumulated on the outer surface.
The dust particles fall away from the cartridge and into the hopper for removal. A
automatic pulsed air cleaned dust collector is available as an option. Here the dust collector
