Connection and Getting Started
☞
The cable can be used in a PC with Windows operating system as well as in an Apple computer
with MAC OS X. A combination of PC and MAC is also possible.
In the following description, the term: „Computer“ is always used to refer to either a PC or a
MAC.
• Switch on both of the computers that you want to connect to each other with the cable.
• Connect the
fi
rst USB plug of the Mini KVM Datalink cable to a free USB port of the
fi
rst computer.
Installation with Windows
During the initial operation start-up, Windows recognises the new hardware and starts the driver installa-
tion. The driver and the software are integrated directly in the KVM cable (similar to with a USB stick). In
order to start the software installation, you need to run the
fi
le:“SKLoader.exe“. If you get a message from
Windows, asking if you want to run this
fi
le, click „Yes“. The remainder of the installation will be carried out
automatically. Upon completion, a new icon will be displayed in the task bar at the bottom, right-hand side
of your screen. To change the con
fi
guration of the software, right-click on it with your mouse.
Installation with MAC OS X
As soon as you have connected the cable to the MAC, the symbol: „Wormhole“ appears on the desktop.
Click on it with your mouse. In the new window that opens, click again on the symbol: „Wormhole“. The
installation will be carried out automatically in the background. Upon completion, a new icon appears in
the dock, which you can use to change the con
fi
guration of the software.
• Then connect the second USB plug to a free USB port of the second computer.
The installation will follow the exact same procedure as with the
fi
rst computer.
• Once the driver is installed on both computers, the product is ready for operation.
Functional Description
Ability to use a mouse and keyboard on each of the computers
☞
The ideal situation would be, for example, to have two laptops or a PC and a notebook or a MAC
side-by-side. There is no need to constantly switch between two keyboards and mouses!
With the software (the new icon on the menu bar) you can con
fi
gure whether the monitor for computer “2”
is at the left or right of your computer “1”. This setting must be carried out accordingly for both computers.
Then move the cursor with the mouse connected to computer “1” to the screen of computer “2”. Here, you
can use the mouse as if you were using the computer “2” mouse directly (e.g. to start programmes, etc.).
☞
After you move the mouse pointer to the screen of the other computer, it is also possible to use
the keyboard of „Computer 1“ as if it were connected directly to „Computer 2“.
The same applies of course if doing the opposite and you prefer to work with the mouse and keyboard of
computer “2” - you simply move the cursor to the screen of computer “1”!
Copying and pasting data or
fi
les
For example, with the mouse (or keyboard), select some
fi
les in the
fi
le manager of computer “1”. Now move
the mouse onto the computer screen of “2” and paste the
fi
les into any directory.
This is also exactly how to mark and paste text, e.g. if you want to insert some text into a word processor (e.g.
“Open Of
fi
ce”) of computer “1” into a computer spreadsheet to “2”.
It is the same for the other way around, if you want to recopy data from computer “2” onto computer “1”.
☞
To copy data /
fi
les between two computers, no sophisticated software is required; that is, you
can copy the data /
fi
les as usual with the conventional operating steps (keywords „drag and
drop“ or „copy and paste“).
It is not possible, of course, to move open windows between monitors, since you are still working
with two separate computers, not a single computer with two screens.
However, the handling of simultaneous work on two computers is considerably easier than is
otherwise usual - when copying data, text, graphics, etc. it is no longer necessary to have to
detour via a USB stick or USB hard drive and you can work on both computers with just one
mouse and keyboard.
Tips & Notes
• Never disconnect the USB connection during operation, as this may cause data loss.
• The con
fi
guration of the product can be done via the menu bar icon that is available after installing the
software.
For this procedure, observe the enclosed manufacturer’s operating instructions
Cleaning
Using a dry, soft, lint-free cloth is suf
fi
cient to clean the product. Do not apply too much pressure, as this
can scratch the product.
