Installation
If you do not have the expertise required to carry out the installation, please
contact a specialist or a specialised workshop and let them carry out the
installation!
Incorrect installation can cause damage both to the front plug-in unit as well
as to your computer and all connected devices.
Caution, lethal hazard!
Switch off the computer in which the front plug-in unit is to be installed and all
connected devices. Disconnect all devices from the mains voltage and pull out
the mains plug! Just turning off at the on/off switch is not enough!
• Open your computer’s casing and carefully remove the cover.
• Look for a free 8.89cm/3.5“ installation slot and remove the slot cover.
Often there is a metal shielding behind it, which has to be removed first. With some casings,
you have to unscrew this, with others you have to slide it out carefully.
Depending on the casing, you may have to remove the entire front cover first.
• Connect two SATA cables (not included in the delivery; they must be ordered separately) with
the connectors (1) and (4) to the circuit board of the plug-in unit.
• Connect the 10-pole plug of the USB connection cable with the multi-pin connector (3) on the
circuit board of the plug-in module. One of the holes of the cable’s two plugs is closed to avoid
a wrong connection.
• Slide the cable and the plug-in unit into the computer housing and screw it tight.
• Connect a free power plug of your PC’s power adapter to the power connection (2) of the
plug-in unit.
• Connect the SATA plug connectors of the two SATA cables with a free SATA connection of
your main board. Please also note the operating instructions of the main board.
Use preferably two SATA ports that support hot plugging (see operating instructions
of the main board). Otherwise, the SATA hard disks may not be connected or
disconnected from the external Power-eSATA connectors (6) and (8) while the
computer is on. Otherwise this may lead to a loss of data!
• Connect the 10-pole plug of the USB connection cable to an internal USB port of the main
board (see operating instructions of the main board). One of the holes of the plug is closed to
avoid a wrong connection.
• Secure all cables so that they cannot slip out of the ports and obstruct a fan in the PC case.
Use cable ties, for example, to secure them.
• Close the computer case.

• Connect your computer and monitor to the mains voltage and switch on all devices. Since only
the connections of the main board are laid outwards, Windows will not recognise the hardware.
• If your computer does not start correctly, switch it off again immediately and check all the
settings and cable connections.
It must be disconnected from the mains voltage before opening the computer
again, see above!
Connection of the Power eSATA device
Special Power over eSATA devices can be connected to both external eSATA ports (6) and (8),
e.g. fast eSATA memory sticks but also external docking stations that support Power over
eSATA.
Both devices are powered by the internal power supply connection (2). It must therefore be
connected to the plug-in unit!
☞
The provided front plug-in unit supplies an output voltage of 5V and 12V to both
Power eSATA connectors.
Thus, an external hard drive or docking station with Power eSATA can be operated
with both 6.35cm/2.5“ hard drives and 8.9cm/3.5“ hard disks!
Caution!
If the SATA ports of your main board do not support hot plugging (see operating
instructions of main board), eSATA devices must not be connected or disconnected
while the computer is on. This will lead to loss of data!
Thus, for safety reasons we recommend to only connect or disconnect eSATA
devices when the computer is switched off.
Connection of USB devices
Because both Power eSATA ports (6) and (8) are supplied with all USB signals via the USB
connection between the multi-pin connector (3) and the main board, USB devices can also be
connected to eSATA ports, due to the special plug design.
Do not apply force when connecting a USB device to the Power-eSATA connectors (6) and (8);
observe the correct orientation of the USB plug.
The USB signals are only looped through the plug-in card, so the USB device has a direct con-
nection to the internal USB port of the main board.
Use of the external power connections
The two power connectors (5) and (7) provide output voltages of 5 V/DC and 12 V/DC to the PC
power adapter. Here, you can connect corresponding cables or devices, e.g. a power connec-
tion cable for an external disk drive.
Warning!
The connectors are directly connected to the PC power adapter. A short-circuit or a
wrong, reversed polarity will not only damage the PC power adapter, but also the
connected device!
We recommend that you only connect devices or cables to the power connectors (5)
and (7) while the computer is off. Do not apply force when connecting the corre-
sponding plugs!
Disposal
