Intended Use
A 6.35 cm/2.5” SATA hard drive/SSD (not included) can be installed in the enclosure. The prod-
uct is connected to a computer via a USB port. Power is supplied via the USB.

Safety Instructions
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe
these safety instructions! We do not assume any liability for any resulting
damage!
We shall not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury caused
by incorrect handling or non-compliance with the safety instructions! In such
cases, the warranty will be null and void.

cation of the product is not permitted for
safety and approval reasons (CE).
• The product is intended for use only in dry, indoor locations. No part of the product
must be allowed to become damp or wet.
• The product is not a toy and should be kept out of the reach of children.
• Do not leave packaging materials carelessly lying around, since they may become
a dangerous plaything for children.
• Handle the product with care; it may be damaged by impacts, blows, or accidental
falls, even from a low height.
Installation of a hard drive/SSD
• If the hard drive housing is screwed shut upon delivery, remove the two screws on the sides.
Then pull the plastic frame out of the aluminium housing.
• Plug the SATA hard drive or a SATA-SSD correctly onto the terminal strip on the circuit board.
• Fasten the hard drive/SSD to the plastic frame with 4 screws.
• Slide the plastic frame with the hard drive into the aluminium housing. Then secure it with 2
screws on the sides.
• If desired, the rubber feet provided can be glued onto the bottom of the enclosure.
Driver Installation
Your operating system already contains the drivers for the hard drive enclosure, which is why
there is no encloseddisk with drivers.
Please note that a suitable USB3.0 controller is required for USB3.0 operation (e.g. integrated
in many modern motherboards or available as an upgrade using an additional plug-in card).
Connection
There are several types of USB ports:
• USB3.0 Port
According to the USB3.0 standards, the port can supply a current of max. 900 mA. This is
suf
fi
cient to operate the hard disk enclosure with a hard drive/SSD installed.
With notebooks or non-standard USB3.0 ports, the maximum available current may be lower
(e.g. if the notebook is supplied with power not through its wall plug transformer, but only
through the built-in rechargeable battery). In this case, a suitable USB3.0 hub with its own
power supply is required for operation.
• USB2.0/1.1 Port
According to the USB standard, this type of USB port can supply a maximum current of up to
500 mA (e.g. the USB port on the front or back of the computer or on a USB hub with power
supply).
However, since the hard drive/SSD and the hard drive enclosure require a current of more
than 500 mA, operation is not possible in this case.
If the power supplied via the USB port is not suf
fi
cient, the hard drive/SSD will not
start; it will not be recognised by the operating system.
In this case, the hard drive only makes quiet clicking noises, but the hard drive motor
will not start!
In some cases, however, some USB2.0/1.1 ports can supply currents higher than required by
the USB standard.
Therefore, we recommend you to use the hard drive enclosure, with the hard drive/
SSD installed, solely on a USB 3.0 port!
Partitioning/Formatting a Hard Drive/SSD
A new hard drive/SSD must be partitioned and formatted before it will appear in the
Windows File Manager and before it can be used.
• In Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP, partitioning and formatting can be
done easily via the Control Panel (via Computer Management/Disk Management).
• After partitioning, the newly created partition has to be formatted (fast formatting is suf
fi
cient;
“normal” formatting may take a long time to complete, depending on the size of the hard
drive).
• Only after the hard drive/SSD has been partitioned and then formatted can data be stored on
the hard drive.
Handling
• Do not move the product with a hard drive installed when the drive is in use. Movement
during operation may cause the write/read heads in the hard drive to make contact with the
magnetic disk. This may not only lead to data loss but may also damage the hard drive! The
same applies to the 30-second period after the hard drive enclosure has been switched off,
until the magnetic disk in the hard drive has come to a full stop.
Naturally, this does not apply when using an SSD, since an SSD does not have any
moving parts.
• Do not place the product on sensitive furniture surfaces without using suf
fi
cient protection, as
this can cause scratches or pressure marks.
• Avoid the following adverse conditions at the installation location and during transport:
- Excessive humidity or dampness
- Extreme cold or heat, direct sunlight
- Dust or
fl
ammable gases, fumes or solvents
- Strong vibrations, impacts or blows
- Strong magnetic
fi
elds such as those found in the vicinity of machinery or loudspeakers
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked nor pinched.
Cleaning
Before cleaning the product, disconnect it from the power supply; unplug the USB plug. Then
wait for at least 30 seconds until the magnetic disks in the hard drive have come to a complete
stop (not necessary for an SSD).
Use a clean, dry, soft cloth for cleaning. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents, as these
can cause discolouration. Do not press too strongly on the surface when cleaning, to prevent
scratch marks.
Dust can easily be removed using a clean, long-haired brush and a vacuum cleaner.
