Removal and Replacement Procedures
Processor with Heatsink
To remove a processor with heatsink:
CAUTION: Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage electronic components. Be sure that
you are properly grounded (earthed) before beginning any installation procedure. Refer to
“Electrostatic Discharge Information” earlier in this chapter for more information.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the internal
system components to cool before touching them.
NOTE: The heatsink of the 1-GHz processor is black. All other processor heatsinks are silver.
1. Complete the preparation procedures. Refer to “Preparation Procedures” earlier in this
chapter.
2. Remove the front bezel. Refer to “Front Bezel” earlier in this chapter.
3. Remove the access panel. Refer to “Access Panel” earlier in this chapter.
4. Remove the internal fan baffle. Refer to “Internal Fan Baffle” earlier in this chapter.
5. Push up on the assembly clip lever to disengage the processor from the socket (1), and
then unhook each side of the processor from the socket.
6. Lift up the lever on the processor socket until it releases (2).
IMPORTANT: The lever must be perpendicular to the system board to unlock the processor unit.
7. Remove the processor from the processor socket (3).

To replace the processor with heatsink, reverse steps 2 through 7.
