Front Differential Removal FRONT DIFFERENTIAL AND HALFSHAFTS
7. Pry the center drive shaft free from the cir-clip on the differential input shaft, but do not attempt to remove at this
time
(Figure 16-3, Page 16-2) .
8. For auto-locking front differential: Disconnect the two-pin connector between the front differential and the
wire harness.
9. Disconnect the vent hose from the front differential (Figure 16-4, Page 16-2) .

10. Remove the four front differential mounting bolts (Figure 16-5, Page 16-2) .
Carefully slide the differential towards the driver side until the passenger side half-shaft can be easily disengaged
from the differential output shaft splines
(Figure 16-6, Page 16-2) .

11. Carefully slide the differential towards the passenger side of the vehicle until the driver side half-shaft can be
easily disengaged from the differential output shaft splines (Figure 16-7, Page 16-3) .
12. Slide the differential towards the front of the vehicle until the center drive shaft can be easily disengaged from the
differential input shaft splines.
13. Swing the passenger side half-shaft out towards the front of the vehicle for clearance to facilitate removal of
the differential (Figure 16-8, Page 16-3) .
