ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The electrical system on the FE400 key-start vehicles is 12 volts DC with negative ground to frame. It consists
of ten circuits that are easily identified:
•
Starter Circuit
•
Generator Circuit
•
Engine Ignition Circuit
•
Engine Kill Circuit
•
Reverse Buzzer Circuit
•
Low Oil Warning Circuit
•
Lockout Cam Circuit
•
Fuel Gauge and Sending Unit Circuit
•
Hour Meter Circuit
•
Lighting Circuit
A key-start vehicle uses the ignition key to activate the electrical system and start the engine. It allows the
engine to run at idle or advanced RPM using the accelerator pedal when the Forward/Reverse handle is in the
NEUTRAL position.
See Section 13 – FE400 Engine.
LOCKOUT CAM
This key-start vehicle is equipped with a lockout cam that allows the engine to be started and reved only when
the Forward/Reverse handle is in the NEUTRAL position. The lockout cam (yellow) is located on the back of
the Forward/Reverse handle, inside the engine compartment.
NOTE:
Be sure the cam is in the correct position. The cam should activate the limit switch only when the
Forward/Reverse handle is in the NEUTRAL position
.
CIRCUIT TESTING
See General Warning, Section 1, Page 1-1.
Test the vehicle battery to determine whether or not it is the source of the problem before testing the electrical
circuits. A hydrometer, multimeter and 160-ampere load tester will be required.
