Connect the handset to the Handset port.

Step 4
Connect a straight-through Ethernet cable from the switch to the network port labeled Network on the Cisco
Unified IP Phone 8941 and 8945. Each Cisco Unified IP Phone ships with one Ethernet cable in the box.
You can use either Category 3, 5, or 5e cabling for 10Mbps connections, but you must use Category 5 or 5e
for 100 or 1000 Mbps connections.

Step 5
(Optional) Connect a straight-through Ethernet cable from another network device, such as a desktop computer,
to the access port labeled Computer on the Cisco Unified IP Phone 8941 and 8945.
You can connect another network device later if you do not connect one now.
You can use either Category 3, 5, or 5e cabling for 10Mbps connections, but you must use Category 5 or 5e
for 100 or 1000 Mbps connections.

Step 6
Monitor the phone startup process. This step adds primary and secondary directory numbers and features that
are associated with directory numbers to the phone, and verifies that the phone is configured properly.

Step 7
If you are configuring the Ethernet network settings on the phone for an IP network, you can set up an IP
address for the phone either by using DHCP or by manually entering an IP address.

Step 8
Make calls with the phone to verify that the phone and features work correctly.

Step 9
Provide information to end users about how to use their phones and how to configure their phone options.
This step ensures that users have adequate information to successfully use their Cisco Unified IP Phones.

Set Up Phone from Setup Menus
You can control whether a phone has access to the Settings menu or to options on this menu by using the
Settings Access field in the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration Phone Configuration
window. The Settings Access field accepts these values:
Enabled
Allows access to the Settings menu.
Disabled
Prevents access to the Settings menu.
