Q. How do I configure TCP/IP protocol?
A. TCP/IP protocol in a Microsoft Windows environment is different for each
operating system. Follow the appropriate instructions in this section for your
operating system.
Configuring TCP/IP on Windows XP Systems

Click
Start
, and depending on your Start menu setup, choose one of the
following options:
If you are using the Windows XP Default Start Menu, select
Connect to
,
choose
Show all connections
, and then go to step 2.
If you are using the Windows XP Classic Start Menu, select
Settings
, choose
Network Connections
. Double-click the
Local Area Connection
icon in the
LAN or High-Speed Internet section of the Network Connections window.

When the Network Connections window opens, right click on
Local Area
Connection
, left click on
Properties
from the menu to open the Properties
dialogue box.

Locate a white box titled "This connection uses the following items:". Use the
down arrow on the right side of the box to scroll down until you see Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP). Select
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
, then click the
Properties
button below the white box on the right hand side.

Select both
Obtain an IP address automatically
and
Obtain DNS server address
automatically
in the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window, and then
click
OK
.

Click
OK
at the bottom of the properties box to close the box. At this point, your
PC will automatically request and receive an IP address from that gateway.
Once the address is received your PC will have Internet access.

In the event your PC does not automatically request an IP address after
completing the above steps, it is recommended that you select Windows
Start
button, then shutdown and restart Windows.

assistance.
Configuring TCP/IP on Windows 2000 Systems

Connections window.

in the Local Area Connection Status window.
