Chapter 2 Installing a Cisco Nexus Fabric Extender
Starting the Cisco Nexus Fabric Extender
Note
Do not connect the Ethernet port to the LAN until the initial device configuration has been performed.

Warning
When installing or replacing the unit, the ground connection must always be made first and
disconnected last.
Statement 1046
To power up the device and verify the hardware operation, follow these steps:
Step 1
Verify that the empty power supply bays have filler panels installed, the faceplates of all modules are
flush with the port side exhaust of the chassis, and the captive screws of the power supplies, fan tray, and
all expansion modules are tight.
Step 2
Verify that the power supply and the fan trays are installed.
Note
Depending on the outlet receptacle on your power distribution unit, you may need the optional
jumper power cord to connect the Cisco Nexus 2000 Series FEX to your outlet receptacle. See
the
“Jumper Power Cord” section on page C-9
.
Step 3
Ensure that the device is adequately grounded as described in the
“Grounding the System” section on
.
Step 4
If you are installing an AC power supply, connect the power supply to an AC power source as follows:
a.
Plug the power cable into the power receptacle on the power supply.
b.
Attach the other end of the power cable to the AC power source.
c.
If you are connecting cables to a Cisco Nexus 2148T power supply, flip the switch above the AC
receptacle on the power supply to ON.
d.
Verify that the power supply is functioning by making sure that the OK LED turns green and the
FAULT LED is off.
Step 5
If you are installing a DC power supply, connect the power supply to a DC power source as follows:
a.
Make sure that the DC power source is turned off at the circuit breaker.
b.
Connect a negative cable from the power source to the left terminal on the power supply and fasten
with the screw from that terminal. This terminal is labeled negative (-) on newer power supplies and
is labeled incorrectly as positive (+) on the first power supplies sold.
c.
Connect a positive cable from the power source to the right terminal on the power supply and fasten
with the screw from that terminal. This terminal is labeled positive (+) on newer power supplies and
is labeled incorrectly as negative (-) on the first power supplies sold.
d.
Turn on the power at the circuit breaker.
e.
Verify that the power supply is functioning by making sure that the OK LED turns green and the
FAULT LED is off.
Step 6
Listen for the fans; they should begin operating when the power cable is plugged in.
