APPENDIX A – Mute Relay
A Mute Relay is available to assist in silencing most of the ANI burst heard by
operators and dispatchers.
The Relay activates as soon as the incoming data (FleetSync, GE-Star, or DTMF)
is determined to be data and not random noise. The determination takes around
50 mS.
When the operator’s speaker is passed through the Mute Relay, a good portion of
the incoming data will be silenced. The operator will however, hear the 50 mS of
leading data burst.
If the console has a MDC-1200 muting function, then the operator will not hear the
MDC-1200 data burst.
The following timing diagrams illustrate how the Mute Relay reacts.
