Chofu Propane gas heater
The Chofu Propane gas heater is a highly efficient water heater especially designed
for Hot Tubs. The water is self circulating, using the "thermosiphon" principle. Hot
water rises and creates low pressure, which sucks the water from below. This
eliminates the need for a circulation pump and electricity, making it possible to
heat the water with the heater placed on the outside. One great advantage is that
there will be more space in the tub, making it possible to choose a smaller model.
An external heater is also preferable when considering safety aspects.
Size
43 cm (height) x 43 cm (length) x 25 cm (width),
weight 8.5 kg
Heating
The effect of the Chofu Propane heater is
approximately 14 kW. The heating speed is approximately
10° C per hour for 1 000 litres of water. The gas use is 1 kg
per hour.
WARNING!
•
The white “distributor pipes” has to be connected when
the heater is in use.
•
Don’t put fingers or toes in the “distributor pipe”.
•
The heater may not be used till the water level rises
above the highest pipe.
•
Get used to empty always the heater when it won't be
used especially when the temperature sinks below 0.
•
When using saltwater the heater should always be rinsed
with fresh water after every use.
•
The same applies for chlorinated water or something
similar when chemicals are used.
Operation
The heater starts manually with an automatic ignition
switch. The main switch should be outside the tub.
The switch should be placed so that it is easy to reach
from both inside and outside the tub.
Features
•
Works without electricity
•
Manual “remote control” with
ignition switch
•
Weather proof housing
•
Automatic shut-off if the
temperature in the heat
exchanger, where the thermostat
is, exceeds 45°C
The gas heater is virtually maintenance free since it has no loose parts and needs no electricity. Since the
construction has been designed for outdoor use, it should not be used indoors. It is weather resistant and can stand
outside uncovered even when it is raining. It can also be covered. If covered, make sure there is enough air
circulation and follow the recommended measurements. See the picture below left.
Installation
OBSERVE! If you are the least bit unsure how to go about
assembling and installting the gasheater you should let a
professional handle it.
The Chofu Propane gas heater is connected to a Hot Tub
(smallest diameter 150 cm, height 100 cm) with the connection
kit provided. This consists of a 50 mm PVC plastic pipe, flexible
rubber pipes including clamps, one straight connection to the
side of the hot tub, and one 90° connection for the base. See
pictures below.
Procedure:
1.
The heater is placed on a level foundation of wood, brick
or cement. The heater should be placed at the same
height, or at most 45 mm lower, as the hot tub. This is
important for the circulation and so that the water can be
drained out of the heater during cold weather.
2.
For the upper connection pipe (outlet) a 60 mm hole is
drilled in the side of the hot tub, 320 mm from the
surface the tub is standing on. On the bottom on the
opposite side a similar hole (inlet) is made for the water
coming from the heater.
3.
The straight connection including pipes is screwed into
the side and the curved one into the bottom. Connect the
upper pipe inc. the “distributor pipes” under the bench.
Use a sealing compound on the joints.
4.
The black neoprene tubes should be connected to the
heater. If the tubes are lubed with a bit of food oil they
are easier to connect. Secure using the included clamps.
5.
The heater is connected to a gas connection equipped
with a 30 mbar pressure reducer.
