Operating Principles
5-25
Discharge Phase
This phase begins after the piece has been
spread. An air blast occurs to begin the process of
laying the flatwork piece down on the discharge
ribbons.
The I/O control panel energizes SV20L
and SV20R which produces an air blast
that blows the top of the sheet onto the
discharge conveyor.
At the same time, the I/O control panel
de-energizes SV16 to open the spread
clamps.
Once the current piece has cleared the
tail sensors (PE13/27), the system allows
processing of the next piece to continue.
This helps to prevent overlapping and to
maintain a gap between items.
The piece travels on the discharge
conveyor ribbons until it completely
clears the spreader/feeder.
Reject Phase
If a piece is dropped, I/O control energizes
CR39. Then:
CR39 then energizes MTR10, which
causes the transfer ribbons to move
toward the rear of the unit.
At the same time, the reject ribbons
move toward the front of the unit.
This error piece is deposited upon the
reject ribbons, which carry the piece to
the front of the machine

Error Conditions
Various operating conditions can result in an
error condition.
As noted, if, during the spread phase,
the taut sensors (PE50A/B) do not
simultaneously detect the piece, the
resulting error condition causes the piece
to be dropped to the floor.
Also, as noted, if, during the spread
phase, the I/O control panel board does
not detect a proper signal from SVO,
one of two conditions occur:
If no signal is received, the machine
is stalled. It shuts down and the
appropriate message displays in the
CHI Panel.
If some signals are received, an error
condition is assumed and the piece
is dropped to the floor.
If any of the wall sensors
(PE9/10/21/22) detect the piece, an error
condition is assumed and the piece is
dropped to the floor.
If the I/O control panel board receives
a signal from the crossbeam sensor
(PE45ER), an unsafe condition is
assumed and the machine immediately
shuts down and releases all compressed
air. The appropriate message displays in
the CHI Panel.
If the I/O control panel board receives
a signal from an inlet capacitive switch
(Pt41/42-left) or (PE42/43-right), an
unsafe condition is assumed and the
machine immediately shuts down
and releases all compressed air. The
appropriate message displays in the CHI
Panel.
