GENERAL DESCRIPTION
All m odels are eq u ip p ed w ith a split brake system . The
system is designed w ith a separate hydraulic system for the
fro n t and rear brakes using a dual m aster cylinder (Fig. 1 and
Fig. 2).
T he split system consists basically o f tw o separate brake
system s. When a failure is en c o u n te re d on either, the o th e r is
adequate to stop th e vehicle. I f one system is n o t functioning,
it is norm al for th e brake pedal lash and pedal effo rt to
substantially increase. This occurs because o f the design o f the
m aster cylinder w hich incorporates an actuating piston for
each system . When th e rear system loses fluid, its piston will
b o tto m against the fro n t pisto n . W hen th e fro n t system loses
fluid, its piston will b o tto m on th e end o f th e m aster cylinder
body. The pressure differential in one o f th e system s causes an
uneven hydraulic pressure balance betw een the fro n t and rear
system s. The brake pipe d istrib u tio n and sw itch assembly or
com bination value, near the m aster cylinder, detects the loss
o f pressure and illum inates the brake alarm indicator light on
the in stru m e n t panel. The pressure loss is felt a t the brake
pedal by an apparent lack o f brakes for m ost o f the brake
