4.2 Advanced operation guide

The section mainly describes the basic concept and operation methods of marker and marker function. The
marker function is not available for all measurement modes and measurement functions. The corresponding
menu will not display in the measurement function without marker or marker function.
1) Type of marker
The 4051 Series Signal/Spectrum Analyzer has three types of markers:
 [Normal Marker]
Indicating that the marker is position marker. The normal marker can move on the trace points by assigning X
Axis value, and the corresponding trace value is the absolute value of Y Axis.
 Delta Marker
Indicating that the marker is numeric marker. The delta marker refers to the relative value between the
selected marker and its reference marker. The delta marker can move on the trace data by assigning the
relative value of X Axis between itself and its reference marker.
 Fixed Marker
Indicating that the marker is position marker. As the name suggests, the fixed marker means that it remains
stationary in the designated position. The fixed marker can move by assigning X Axis and Y Axis or peak-
peak search. Once the move of fixed marker is finished, it will remain stationary. If the normal marker or delta
marker is to be changed to fixed marker, the X Axis position and Y Axis value corresponding to the marker
will remain unchanged.
2) Active marker
One marker is corresponding to one trace, so the marker will be activated only when it is displayed on the
active window. If the trace display in the current active window is closed, the corresponding trace marker and
marker function will automatically close accordingly. The active marker appears white diamond in the
corresponding screen position.
By default, when the

key on the front panel is pressed, the 4051 Series Signal/Spectrum Analyzer
will automatically activate Marker 1 with type of normal marker, which is corresponding to the trace selected
currently, and place the position of marker in the center of display area, namely the center of x Axis.
The Series Signal Analyzer will automatically activate the markers and set them as normal marker after being
selected through soft keys after entering [Select Marker

].
