When the entire length or wood stock has been roughly formed into a cylindrical
shape, you can switch to your final shaping and decorating gouges and chisels.

When shaping of the wood stock complete, press the power Switch (42) down to the
Off position.
12.
Remove the shaped wood stock by first loosening the Locking Handle (46), then
turning the Handwheel Handle (52) counterclockwise. Carefully remove wood stock
from both centers.
Using a Chuck
The Chuck (not supplied) can be used to hold large diameter stock where drilling or other
special turning procedures are required. Refer to page 13 for information on ordering the
optional Chucks from Harbor Freight Tools.
1.
Remove the Spur Center (16) from the Spindle (11) by holding the inner Hex Nut (14)
with the Spanner Wrench. Use another wrench on the outer Hex Nut (15) and turn
counterclockwise until the Spur Center comes out. See Figure C on page 9.
Note
: Do not turn the inner Hex Nut (14).
2.
Screw the Chuck (not supplied) onto the Spindle (11) until tight. Tighten the inner Hex
Nut (15) against the Chuck.
3.
Open the jaws of the Chuck with its Chuck Key.
4.
Insert the wood stock into the open jaws and tighten the jaws onto the stock with the
Chuck Key. See Figure L, below, showing examples.
5.
Begin the turning or drilling operation as described on page 12.
