4.4.2 Setting the Merlin LT orientation
The mounting plate displays guidelines to ease alignment of the Merlin LT at predefined horizontal angles.
Predrilled, threaded holes provide fixed locations to bolt the base plate down at each of these angles.
Select your desired horizontal angle and bolt the Merlin LT in place.
Select your desired vertical angle and use the locking studs to secure the Merlin LT in place.
4.4.3 Determining the vertical laser offset adjustment
The vertical laser offset adjustment is the adjustment of the lever arm from the measurement datum point on the
mounting plate to the laser origin point.
To the XYZ lever arm values, you must apply the vertical laser offset adjustment. The vertical laser offset adjustment
is dependent on three variables:
•
the direction – fore or aft – that the Merlin LT is pointing on the vessel;
•
the vertical angle at which the Merlin LT has been positioned;
•
the horizontal angle (cw or acw) that the Merlin LT has been rotated to on the mounting plate.
From Table 2 and Table 3 below, select the relevant table according to whether the Merlin LT is facing fore (Table

Select the horizontal angle from the second column. The angle is 22.5° cw or awc, or 45°cw or acw.
Finally, read off the XYZ values from the vertical columns.
Measurements are in metres and are taken from the measurement datum point on the mounting plate.
