FRONT CASTOR/FORK SAFETY TIPS
CLIMBING A kURB
BRAKES
Improper mounting method of front fork and castor may result in the wheelchair tipping
over and causing injury.
Be careful when you make any front inclination movement for example (tie shoelaces),
always insure maximum wheelchair stability.
The front fork and castors are used to go forward or turn direction. A professional is
needed to mount/dismount the front fork and castor.
The wheelchair can climb a curb up to 10 degrees. The max. curb height is about 17.5%
of the front castors. Use of anti-tippers helps climb a larger curb.
It is strongly recommended that the wheelchair user climbs the curb with care and
assistance of an attendant. Anti-Tip Wheels are available to purchase from CareCo.
Brakes are intended to keep a stopped wheelchair from rolling especially on a slope.
Do not use it to stop the wheelchair suddenly when it is in movement. This may cause
trapped fingers, or even the wheelchair to tip over causing injury.
Always use brakes on both sides to stop the wheelchair gradually.
When stopped on a slope or in a transport vehicle, keep the wheelchair locked by brakes
at both sides. Do not put fingers or any part of your body between the brakes and the rear
wheel when the wheelchair is in movement.
Keep the brake at a proper distance from the wheel and keep a normal tire air pressure.
The recommended distance is 4mm. It may vary to each user.
The mounting or dismount of the wheelchair brakes must be done by a professional. The
user is forbidden to mount/dismount/adjust the brakes.
