Troubleshooting
Chapter 14
If the power disconnects unexpectedly
User data and directory dialing settings are stored using the internal battery if there is a power
failure or if you accidentally disconnect the power cord. However, all documents stored in memory
will be deleted.
If the power disconnects, the following will apply:
• You will not be able to send or receive faxes or make copies.
• If a telephone is connected to the machine, you can receive voice calls.
• Whether you are able to make voice calls or not depends on your telephone type.
When power is restored, the MEMORY CLEAR REPORT will be printed automatically listing the
documents deleted from memory. Note however that this report will not be printed if the print
media size is set to a setting other than <
A4
> or <
LTR
>, black ink has run low, or paper has run
out. When power is restored, <
BLACK INK LOW
> or <
LOAD PAPER
> will be displayed on the
LCD if black ink has run low or the print media is not set in the multi-purpose tray. If the LCD
displays these messages, press [OK] to return to the standby mode. In this case, the MEMORY
CLEAR REPORT will not be printed even if you replace the black ink tank or reload the print
media in the multi-purpose tray.
Nothing displays on the LCD (there is no power)
When you connect the power cord to the machine and wall outlet, and press [ON/OFF], the
machine powers ON and a message is displayed on the LCD.
While the Alarm lamp flashes, the machine is initializing and you will not be able to use it. Wait
until the Alarm lamp stops flashing.
If nothing is displayed on the LCD, check the cause of the error and take corrective actions
according to the list.
Cause
Action
The power cord is not correctly
connected.
Securely connect the power cord to the machine and wall outlet.
You have not pressed [ON/OFF].
The machine will power ON and the LCD will display a message
when you connect the power cord and press [ON/OFF].
The wall outlet is not working
normally.
Connect another electrical appliance to the wall outlet and check
whether the wall outlet is working properly.
The power cord is connected to a
table tap, OA tap or extension cord.
Disconnect the power cord from any table taps, OA taps or extension
cords and connect directly to the wall outlet. If the machine powers
ON when the power cord is connected directly, the table taps, OA
taps or extension cords are probably defective and should be
replaced. If they have a power switch, check that it is turned ON.
The power cord is defective.
Either replace the power cord with another, suitably fused, or using
a tester, check whether the cord is defective.
