General Movie Recording Cautions
Red [
E
] Internal Temperature Warning Icon
o
If the camera’s internal temperature increases due to prolonged movie
recording or under a high ambient temperature, a red
[
E
]
icon will appear.
o
The red
[
E
]
icon indicates that movie recording will soon be terminated
automatically. If this happens, you will not be able to shoot again until the
camera’s internal temperature decreases. Turn off the power and let the camera
rest for a while. Note that the time until movie recording stops automatically
when the red
[
E
]
icon is displayed varies depending on shooting conditions.
o
Recording a movie at a high temperature for a prolonged period will cause the
red
[
E
]
icon to appear earlier. When you are not shooting, always turn off the
camera.
[
x
] Display
o
The camera’s internal temperature may rise and
[
x
]
may be displayed after
extended movie recording, or after extended Live View use with
[

set to
[Enable]
. Movie recording is not possible as long as
[
x
]
is displayed. If
[
x
]
appears during movie recording, the camera will turn off
automatically in approx. 3 min.
o
Wait and allow the camera to cool down when
[
x
]
is displayed or the camera
stops movie recording in progress, either by turning it off or canceling movie
recording mode.
Recording and Image Quality
o
If the attached lens has an Image Stabilizer and you set the Image Stabilizer
(IS) switch to <
1
>, the Image Stabilizer will operate at all times even if
you do not press the shutter button halfway. The Image Stabilizer consumes
battery power and may shorten the total movie recording time depending on
the shooting conditions. When the Image Stabilizer is not necessary, such as
when using a tripod, it is recommended that you set the IS switch to <
2
>.
o
If the brightness changes as you record a movie with auto exposure, the
movie may appear to stop momentarily. In this case, record movies with
manual exposure.
o
If there is a very bright light source in the image, the bright area may appear
black on the screen. Movies are recorded almost exactly as they appear on
the screen.
o
Image quality may be lower when recording movies under a combination of
conditions such as high ISO speeds, high temperatures, low shutter speeds,
and low light.
o
Recording movies over an extended period may cause the camera’s internal
temperature to rise and aff ect image quality. Turn off the camera when
possible if you are not recording movies.
o
If you play back a movie with other devices, image or sound quality may
decline or playback may not be possible (even if the devices support MP4
format).
