2.3 Power Considerations
x A power cab l e inc l uded with the modem connects to the data l ogger's 1 2 V
or switched 1 2 V termina l . Connection to the switched 1 2 V termina l
a ll ows the data l ogger to switch power to the modem during schedu l ed
transmission interva l s if desired.
x When using the switched 1 2 V termina l , the modem can t y pica lly be
powered with a BP1 2 batter y , CH100 charger/regu l ator, and M S X10 so l ar
pane l .
3. Configuration
3.1 Establish Cellular Service
Prior to contacting the ce ll u l ar service provider*, have the fo ll owing
information on hand:
1. E l ectronic S eria l Number (E S N). The E S N is found on the
unit l abe l .
2 . Desired area code and l oca l prefix. Choose the same area
code and prefix as the ca ll ing PC to ensure that ca ll s are
bi ll ed at l oca l rates, even if the phone is used outside the
l oca l ca ll ing area.

NOTE: Indicate to the account representative that y ou wou l d l ike to open a
new account using y our modem in I S -95B circuit switched/voice mode. The
service provider does not need the Redwing modem to activate the account.
3.2 Program the Modem
Items needed:
x
Computer with a COM port.
x
9-pin cab l e to connect between the computer and the Redwing.
x
A termina l program on the computer “H y pertermina l ”.
x
1 2 vo l t DC app l ied to the Redwing.
x
Antenna on the Redwing (for over-the-air updates).
x
CDMA account.
