Usually an RF407 will be used at the base station of an RF407 radio network.
RF407s can also be used to create dedicated repeater stations in an RF407
network.
You should rent the Radio Test Kit (pn 21107) to perform in-field site
exploration and radio link strength testing when designing an RF407 radio
network.

10.2.7.1 Base Station Design for RF407 Radio Networks
For most base station designs on an RF407 radio network, an RF407 should be
used.
When
LoggerNet
is co-located with the base station, a USB or serial cable
makes the connection between the RF407 and the
LoggerNet
computer. The
physical configuration of the base station has this form:
Antenna <--> RF407 <--> RS-232 or USB cable <-->
LoggerNet
computer
When a telemetry device is used to make a remote connection between the
RF407 base station and the
LoggerNet
computer, the serial communications
between them are transmitted over a different medium. The following physical
configurations illustrate the use of TCP/IP connections made through wired
Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Cell-modem media:
