No measurements should be required to be made at the base station’s
location
The term “single-hop” refers to a CRVW3 station’s ability to make a radio
connection directly with the base station without the need to route its radio
communications through another radio-enabled station (i.e., no repeating is
required). When fewer stations are used (10 or less) or shorter distances are
used, the complexity of the network can be reduced significantly.
If Ethernet TCP/IP connectivity (wired) is available at the base
station location, a Campbell Scientific NL201 device is
recommended – pn 26245
. Note that
the TCP/IP requirement can be met in some cases by using a cell
phone modem such as the RV50 (pn 31886,
). If WiFi connectivity is available at
the base station location, the NL240 device may be used – pn
28714
instructions for using the NL201 device to connect the base radio
to a TCP/IP network.
If your system does not meet the above criteria, refer to Section
.
9.2 Simple Network Installation Overview
The high-level process for setting up a simple network includes:
•
Deploying and Configuring individual CRVW3 measurement stations
•
Enabling and confirming radio connectivity on each CRVW3 station
•
Installing the base station and confirming radio connectivity between
it and the CRVW3 stations
•
Using
LoggerNet
to connect to the base station and then to the
CRVW3 stations
•
Setting up automatic collection within
LoggerNet
for each CRVW3
station
In the simplest network, you have one base station and one remote station. No
matter how many stations are in the network, there is always only one base
station. All remote stations will communicate with the same base station.
If a CRVW3 station cannot make a radio communications link directly with the
base station, a radio repeater station must be inserted between those two
locations. The design and use of repeater stations is discussed in Section
Complex (Large) Radio Networks
(p. 58)
. This section assumes that no repeater
stations will be required.
9.3 CRVW3-RF451 Simple Network Installation
In a simple network installation for CRVW3-RF451 devices, an RF451 will be
used as the main component of the base station. The RF451 is configured as
the master radio. Please refer to the RF451 manual for more information about
the use of the RF451:
