When humidity levels reach the dew point, condensation occurs and damage to
CR6 electronics can result. Effective humidity control is the responsibility of the
user. The CR6 module is protected by a packet of silica gel desiccant, which is
installed at the factory. This packet is replaced whenever the CR6 is repaired at
Campbell Scientific. The module should not normally be opened except to replace
the internal lithium battery.
Adequate desiccant should be placed in the instrumentation enclosure to provide
added protection.

Internal Battery — Details
CAUTION
Fire, explosion, and severe-burn hazard. Misuse or improper
installation of the internal lithium battery can cause severe injury. Do not
recharge, disassemble, heat above 100 °C (212 °F), solder directly to the
cell, incinerate, or expose contents to water. Dispose of spent lithium
batteries properly.
The CR6 contains a lithium battery that operates the clock and SRAM when the
CR6 is not powered. The CR6 does not draw power from the lithium battery while
it is fully powered by a
power supply
(p. 93).
In a CR6 stored at room temperature,
the lithium battery should last approximately three years (less at temperature
extremes). In installations where the CR6 remains powered, the lithium cell
should last much longer.
When a CR6 is put on the shelf for extended periods, the setting
DisableLithium
can be set to disconnect the lithium battery from CR6 circuits, thereby preserving
it for when the CR6 is placed into service. This setting should be used with
caution since disconnecting the lithium battery, either manually or through
settings, will reset the clock and erase SRAM data if primary power is also
