CAMEC BREAKAWAY SYSTEM
SINGLE OR DUAL AXLE
(P/N 040119)
CHARGING
Charging of the break-away battery can be done via the tow vehicle auxiliary line (black wire from the
vehicle), connecting the break-away black/white wire to the RV’s charging system or to a battery trickle charger.
To charge the break-away system, select the appropriate charging method for your RV with the charge selector
switch. The yellow Charging LED will illuminate to indicate that the battery is charging.
NOTE.
If using a dedicated trickle charger just to charge the break-away system, please ensure that you use a
“zero volt pickup” style charger. These are typically advertised as being able to charge a completely flat battery.
To ensure the charger is compatible with the break-away system, select Battery Charger on the charge selector
switch and confirm that the yellow Charging LED is illuminated. If the Charging LED does not illuminate, check
the internal fuse first then check to ensure the charger is working.
Do not over charge the battery, if charging from car during towing, limit the changing time to 5hrs by switching
the charge switch to the off position after this time.
It may take several hours for the battery to fully recharge. If the battery has been completely flattened, the car/
alternator charging system may not be able to fully recharge the battery. Should this occur, you can switch the
charge selector on the front panel to battery charger.
If the battery does not hold its charge, you may need to replace the break-away battery.
BATTERY LIFE:
The break-away battery should be replaced every 2 years regardless of its test condition with
the same type 12V 5AH SLA battery. For a replacement battery or information regarding break-away, see your
local distributor or contact CAMEC PTY LTD. The Camec replacement battery part number is: 041767
IN VEHICLE BATTERY MONITOR
IN SOME STATES YOUR TOW VEHICLE MUST BE FITTED WITH A REMOTE BATTERY MONITOR TO
CHECK THE LEVEL OF CHARGE OF THE INTERNAL BREAK-AWAY BATTERY.
If a Battery Monitor is required, please use the Camec Remote Battery Monitor p/n 041764. To install, connect
the purple wire to the in car Battery Monitor and when the brake is depressed, the meter will display the
battery status.
BREAK-AWAY SYSTEM TEST
NOTE:
this test should be done regularly to ensure the break-away system is working correctly. Disconnect the
trailer plug from the tow vehicle. Check all internal and external fuses are ok, pull the break-away pin from the
break-away switch attached to the frame. The electric brakes and brake lights of the RV should activate.
NOT A PARKING BRAKE
THIS BREAK-AWAY SYSTEM MUST NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BE USED AS A PARKING BRAKE.
IF USED IN THIS WAY THE BATTERY WILL BE COMPLETELY FLAT AFTER A SHORT TIME AND THIS WILL
RELEASE THE TRAILERS BRAKES! USING THE BREAK-AWAY FOR ANY PURPOSE OTHER THAN FOR
WHICH IT WAS DESIGNED WILL VOID ALL WARRANTY.
