Instructions for Resetting Heaters
NOTE:
Normal operation of the door heater is controlled by an automatic cycling "control thermostat." Failure of
the control thermostat may cause the temperature inside the Cambro product to rise to temperatures that could
cause damage to the plastic. A manually resettable Hi-limit thermostat, set at 195˚F (90,6˚C) is built into the
heater circuit. This device will effectively remove power to the heater in the heating unit and will not return it to
normal operation until the temperature is lower than 185˚F (85˚C) and the button on the hi-limit thermostat is
depressed. Other factors can cause the hi-limit thermostat to open up, such as fan failure or placing food pans
with temperatures higher than 190˚F (87,8˚C).
Directions:
This document covers door heaters manufactured with manually resettable hi-limit thermostats
only. Door heaters with this feature will have an access hole in the cover of the heating unit and
shall have a label "RESET" located near the hole.
CAUTION: Electrical Shock Hazard!
Before attempting to reset the hi-limit thermostat, unplug the heater power cord from the power source.
Only use “non-metal” tools to depress the reset button.
Do not bypass or alter the thermostats in any way.
1. Remove the power cord from the wall outlet or power supply and remove the other end from the front of
the heater.
2. Prior to removing the door, make sure the unit is at room temperature.
3. Open the door of the Cambro product and hold the heater firmly while you remove the 5 thumb screws
with washers holding the heater to the inner face of the door. This may also be done after removing the
door from the Cambro product or by having another person hold the heater for you.
4. Once you have the heater on a stable surface with the metal section facing down, locate the small
round hole in the cover with RESET next to the hole (the RESET word may not be on some units).
5. Using a small diameter round, non-metal item such as a rigid plastic stir stick, guide it through the hole
and depress the button on the hi-limit thermostat as
seen in the figure below.
6. Remove the item you used to depress the button and return the heater to the door, replace the screws
with the washers and tighten.
7. Plug the cord into the door front and then to the power source. Switch on the heater (if required) and
verify it is heating up to the normal temperature.
NOTE:
After resetting the hi-limit thermostat, please verify that all fans are operating and that the
temperature does not go above 185˚F (85˚C). If the fans are not operating, the hi-limit will be activated again
after the heat in the heater enclosure reaches the set-point temperature. If the original cause was failure of
the control thermostat to limit the temperature to 170˚F (76,7˚C), the hi-limit will be activated again after the
heat in the heater enclosure reaches the set-point temperature. If the heater does not work after depressing
the reset button, try the procedure again or if it continues to stop working after some time heating,
do not
bypass or alter the thermostats in any way
and contact your Cambro representative.
NOTE:
This unit is designed to hold pre-heated hot food only. NEVER use to pre-heat or re-heat food.
WARNING!
Never use in wet or damp conditions. Refer to Section II for Safety Instructions and Warnings.
1. Plug into main power supply 200-230VAC 50/60 HZ. Product label located on the heating unit inside
each door clearly indicates power supply information (see label samples below).
2. Power is activated by flipping power switch on front of heated door and will turn red when power is ON.
An amber light on the same switch indicates heater is active. This will remain on until heater reaches
factory set temperature and then will turn off. NOTE – heater will switch on and off as necessary during
operation to maintain factory set temperatures.
3. Pre-heat compartment(s) empty with door(s) closed for 45 minutes prior to loading hot food. When
inside door thermometer reads 150˚F (65˚C), insert pans of hot food into the carrier or cart and latch
door(s) to close tightly. NOTE: Cool metal pans or sheet pans to 250˚F (121,1˚C) prior to placing onto
plastic rails.
4. When transporting cart filled with hot food, unplug cord(s) and store in pocket located on door outside
face prior to moving.
