Database Requirements
The ELS10-27MDU supports a maximum of 2,048 possible database
entries. Under the default configuration, 559 of these entries are used by
the system, leaving 1,489 entries available for learning. With the first
conversation requiring 29 database entries, and each additional
conversation requiring 2 entries, a maximum of 730 conversations can take
place simultaneously without flooding. This becomes important as
multiple ELS10-27MDU switches are cascaded. (See Figure 1 for an
example of cascaded switches.) For example, if there is one client
connected to each of the 10Mbps ports, a hierarchy consisting of three
ELS10-27MDU switches could involve 72 simultaneous conversations.
Based on a balanced topology of cascaded switches, Table 2 shows that a
maximum of 5 levels could be achieved without flooding taking place, and
the percentage of supported simultaneous conversations at different levels
of cascaded switches, assuming all user ports are active.
