Thank you very much for choosing Cabasse speakers.
Please read carefully these instructions before setting up your speakers.
UNPACKING
j
After opening the top carton aps, fold the carton aps right back and invert
the carton contents. Remove the grille from the wall frames and to avoid
damage, keep them away from the work area until you are ready to t them.
Lift the carton clear of the contents and remove the inner packaging from the
speakers. We suggest you to retain the packing for future use.

SET-UP AND POSITIONING
k
Set-up
Check that there is no conict with other installations (pipe work, air condi-
tioning, powercabling etc.). In existing construction, use a stud-nding tool to
map the construction accurately and a pipe detector to scan the proposed
installation position. Avoid installing the speakers in the same cavity as imsy
ducting, which may be induced to rattle. The speakers are designed to ope-
rate satisfactorily in a wide range of cavity volumes, ideally above 20 litres (0.7
cu ft). Placement near a wall/ceiling junction or in a corner is to be avoided as
it may give rise to too much bass and a boomy quality to the sound. If possible,
keep the speakers more than 0.5 m (20 in) from the ceiling edges.
Damping the wall cavity
In addition, loosely ll the whole section of the cavity with wadding. Fibreglass
and mineral wool matting supplied for heat insulation are suitable, but not
closed cell foam or expanded polystyrene. Check that there is no debris that
may fall into the speaker (especially in ceiling mount situations).
IMPORTANT: YOU SHOULD CHECK THAT THE MATERIALS YOU USE MEET THE
LOCAL FIRE AND BUILDING REGULATIONS.
Fitting the wall frame
n
Position the template on the surface as required. Mark around the outside of
the template and cut the aperture neatly.
n
Position the frame in the wall or ceiling and screw in the 6 screws visible
from the front of the frame. These screws swing out clamping dogs that locate
behind the drywall.
n
Ensure that they have located properly and tighten the screws. A certain
amount of exing of the frame is allowed to take up unevenness in the moun-
ting surface, but do not over tighten the screws as excessive distortion of the
frame may occur.
Customising
The frame has a paintable white semi-matte nish, ready if necessary to be re-
nished to match your own decor. Fit the paint mask before re-nishing. Do not
re-nish the drive units or bafe area behind the grille. Avoid touching the drive
units, as damage may result.
Speakers positioning
Our speakers have been improved to function in a vertical position. Under
these conditions, the polar response is most uniform. Powerful drivers generate
magnetic elds that can extend beyond the boundaries of the speaker cabi-
net. We recommend you keep magnetically sensitive articles (TV, computer
screen, computer discs, audio and video tapes, swipe cards...) at least 1.5 ft
(50 cm) away from the speaker. In addition to the position of the speakers, their
location in the listening room, as well as the acoustical characteristics of the
room, are also very important. As it is impossible to indicate a typical location of
speaker systems without a few tests, we suggest several general rules that are
important to apply in order to obtain the best listening results.
Positioning for a stereo listening
l
n
For the ideal positioning of your speakers follow diagram. If « d » is the distance
between the two speakers, this distance must be higher than 5 ft (1.5 m) and the
two speakers must be at equal distance from the listening area which forms with
them an equilateral triangle.
n
The speakers should be located so that their diffusion follows the longest
dimension of the room.
n
No solid object or piece of furniture should be placed between the speakers
and the listener. An effect of mask, even partial, disturbs completely the sound
reproduction as it attenuates the high frequencies and also, in most cases, the
midrange frequencies.
Positioning for an audio video 5.1 conguration
m
Setting up a multi-channel Audio-Video system requires great care when posi-
tioning the specic AV speakers.
n
The centre speaker should be placed as close as possible to the screen and
where it sounds best from your listening spot while offering the optimal picture/
dialogues cohesion. Theoretically, the screen should be located within a virtual
triangle formed by the acoustical centres of the main speakers and the centre
speaker. Practically speaking, this means that the principal speaker should be
placed above the screen if the main speakers are below it, and below the screen
if the main speakers are above.
n
The rear speakers or surround should be placed in the side walls, at listening
height. They should not be positioned far behind the listening zone.
n
The subwoofer should be placed in the front listening area, its position against a
wall reinforces the extreme low register and limits the reections between 80 and
200 Hz. However to obtain the best result, it is always necessary to carry out tests
according to the acoustics of the room.
n
Your AV processor enables the adjustment in level and delay of each of the 5
channels of your system. Fine-tuning is necessary to obtain a perfect sound stage.
ATTENTION: TURN OFF ALL THE AMPLIFIERS BEFORE INTERCONNECTING THEM TO
THE LOUDSPEAKERS. IN ORDER TO CONNECT LOUDSPEAKERS PROPERLY, IT IS MOST
IMPORTANT TO KEEP IN MIND THE FOLLOWING TWO FACTORS: CABLE SECTION AND
PHASE.
CONNECTION
Cable section
To get the full sonic potential of Cabasse loudspeakers and avoid power losses,
the cables connecting the speakers to the power amplier must have the
lowest possible electrical resistance. To help you in choosing the correct cable
gauge, follow diagram.
Phase
Amplier and speaker manufacturers typically indicate connection polarity in
one of two ways: red and black or plus and minus. In either case, always con-
nect red or plus to red or plus and black or minus to black or minus. Connec-
tions should be identical for all channels.
