C-PEN TEXT SCANNER
C-Pen Applications
The main menu on the C-Pen display shows icons for several C-Pen applications. Turn the
Nav
wheel in either
direction to display icons that may be not be visible in the
Display
.
Storage
is an area for storing C-Pen files for transfer to
a PC. When the C-Pen is connected to a PC that has
the C-Pen software installed,
Storage
can be accessed as
if it were a disk drive.
C-Address
is an address book application. It can be
synchronized with Microsoft Outlook on a PC, or with
the Address Book in your Palm device. Since the KNC’s
C-Pen has many users, you are welcome to experiment
with C-Address, but please delete any entries when you
are done using C-Pen.
C-Dictionary
lets you look up words that you have
entered into the C-Pen. The KNC’s C-Pen has only the
default Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, 10th
Edition. To use the dictionary, open the C-Dictionary
program and scan in the word that you wish defined. If
the word is not scanned correctly, or if you would like
to enter the word manually, see “Editing Text” (p.3).
Other dictionaries are available that include options to
translate between several languages, but the KNC does
not own any of these.
C-Direct
allows you to scan text directly into a PC, at
any text cursor. The C-Pen software must be installed
on the PC, and the pen must be connected to the PC by
the cable. You must initiate C-Direct from the PC.
Info
gives you access to several text files of information
about using C-Pen. Topics include
Getting Started
,
Troubleshooting
,
Support
, and
About C-Pen
.
Notes
contains your read and stored text files. The basic
Notes menu
allows you to select
Exit
(to exit Notes) or
New
(to create a new text file). You may also see a list of
text files. You can
Open
,
Rename
, or
Delete
an
individual file; view its
Properties
;
Beam
it to a Palm
device or computer with an infrared port; or select
Cancel
to move back to the main Notes menu.
C-Beam
allows you to beam files directly to your Palm
device, without installing any other software on your
Palm. To beam a file, highlight that file in the
Notes
or
Address
menu, click
Nav
once to view the options
available for that file, and select
Beam
from those options.
C-Pen will immediately look for the other infrared
device, so be sure that your Palm’s IR port is within range,
and that you have set Beam Receive to “On” on your
Palm preferences.
C-Write
lets you use the C-Pen as if it were a regular
pen, hand-writing the characters that you want entered
in your text file. This process is more complicated than
most beginning users will want to deal with. More
information is available in the
User’s Guide
.
Settings
allows you to access and change the settings of
your C-Pen. From the main
Settings
menu you may
adjust
Text Language
,
Read Mode
,
Text Quality
,
C-
Write Feedback
,
Calibration
, or
System Settings
. See
“Customizing C-Pen” (p.3) for more information.
