to changes in the forward voltage of your clipping devices. LEDs and rectifier diodes like the
1N4001 that are commonly used in clipping mods seem to be too much. They produce
unpleasant artifacts in the decay of the note. So adding low forward voltage diodes in series
will have a much more pronounced effect in this circuit. This is just my observation. Don’t
let it discourage you from experimenting with other clipping devices if feel inclined.
Other mods:
FULL ON RAT - Replace R22 and C11 with 47ohm/2.2uF and using 560ohm/4.7uF in the
empty
BLUE spaces. Then remove D3/4 and R24/25 “soft clipping” and replace it with hard
clipping by placing a diode pair in parallel with C12. You could of course keep the soft
clipping. You could remove only R24/25 and replace them with jumpers.
FULL ON TUBESCREAMER – Remove R22. This is kind of like the 4k7 in the negative
feedback loop of a TS circuit, but it’s going to ground. The resistor space just below R22
connects to vref. Place a 4k7 resistor in this space. Replace the .22uF C11 cap with a .047uF
if you want exact TS specs, but most people put a .22uF here anyways, so you probably don’t
want to change anything. Replace the DRIVE potentiometer with an A500k. Replace R23
with a 10k.
Use the JUMPER to reduce signal level to the drive circuit. The signal coming out of the EQ is
pretty hot, so if it’s overloading your drive circuit after you modify it, the jumper space is there
so you can add some resistance. How much resistance? Depends. You’ll just have to
experiment.
Reducing shrill highs – C12 is there to reduce some of the unwanted highs. The OD-05
circuit really doesn’t have a problem with too much highs, but if you do some mod that does
cause unwanted highs, or you just like a darker OD, you can cut highs by increasing the value
of C12.
