2.45 TRUNK AND BATTERY PAN: ULYSSES MODELS
DISASSEMBLY TRUNK AND BATTERY PAN
NOTE
It will not be necessary to remove any part of the tail section
for this operation.
1. Remove seat.
Disconnect negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+)
cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable con-
nected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion,
which could result in death or serious injury. (00049a)
2. See Figure 2-194 . Disconnect battery cables from battery:
negative cable (black) first.
3. Remove battery.
NOTE
On XB12XT models, it will be necessary to remove certain
components of the luggage system. See
2.54 LUGGAGE:
XB12XT .
4. Disconnect ECM connectors (3) [10] and [11].
5. Remove ECM (2). See 4.4 ELECTRONIC CONTROL
MODULE (ECM) .
6. Disconnect rear brake light switch connector [121].
7. Remove fuse block and relay center.
8. Remove main harness and grommet from battery pan.
9. Remove battery pan.
a. Remove fasteners securing battery pan to left and
right tail sections.
b. Lift battery pan straight up and out.
10. Remove the two fasteners securing the pre-load adjuster.
11. Remove the shock reservoir fastener and retainer.
12. Remove fasteners securing front trunk pan to left and right
side tail section.
13. Remove fasteners securing rear trunk pan.
14. Remove the trunk pan.
15. Remove the fan shroud.
ASSEMBLY/TRUNK PAN AND BATTERY
PAN
1. Install the fan shroud.
2. Install the trunk pan.
3. Install fastener securing right front trunk pan to left and
right side tail sections and tighten to 72-96 in-lbs (8-10.8
Nm).
4. Install fasteners securing rear of trunk pan. 48-72 in-lbs
(5.4-8.1 Nm).
5. Install shock reservoir, retainer and fastener. Tighten
fastener to 80-88 in-lbs (9.0-9.9 Nm).
6. Install two fasteners securing the preload adjuster to the
trunk pan and tighten to 36-60 in-lbs (4-6.8 Nm).
7. Install battery pan:
a. Install fasteners securing battery pan to left and right
tail sections and tighten to 72-96 in-lbs (8-10.8 Nm).
b. Install main harness and plastic grommet (7) into
battery pan.
c. Install fuse block and relay center (5).
d. Connect rear brake light switch connector [121].
e. Install ECM. See 4.4 ELECTRONIC CONTROL
MODULE (ECM) .
8. See Figure 2-194 . Connect ECM connectors (3) [10] and
[11].
Connect positive (+) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable
should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected,
the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which
could result in death or serious injury. (00068a)
9. Install battery. See 1.16 BATTERY MAINTENANCE .
After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is
locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift
causing loss of control, which could result in death or
serious injury. (00070b)
10. Install seat.
