However,thegrowthratedoesnotcontinuetoincreaseindefinitelywithtemperaturerise.Hightempera-
tureinjuryduetodesiccation(drying)andthemetabolicrateeventuallyrunsoutofcontrol.
Eachspecieshasaminimumtemperature,belowwhichitfailstogrow;anoptimumatwhichthegrowth
rateishighest;andamaximum,abovewhichgrowthcomestoanend.
