Warning: This machine must be grounded. To avoid electrocution or fire, any re-

pairs to electrical system should be done only by a qualified electrician, using gen-
uine replacement parts.

Operation

Always wear safety glasses before commencing power tool operation.
• Whenever adjusting or replacing any parts on the tool, turn switch off and remove the plug from power source.
• DO NOT STAND IN FRONT OF THE BENCH GRINDER WHEN STARTING IT. Stand to one side of the Bench Grinder and turn it "ON". Wait at the side for one
minute until the grinder comes up to speed. There is always a possibility that debris from a damaged grinding wheel may be discharged towards the operator.
• Keep a steady, moderate pressure on the work and keep it moving at an even pace for smooth grinding.
• Pressing too hard overheats the motor and prematurely wears down the grinding wheels.
• Note the original bevel angle on the item to be sharpened and try to maintain that angle. Sharpening a cutting edge requires removing burrs from edge.
• Deburring edge is done best by using the grinder to pull burr from edge across the bevel angle.
• The grinding wheel should rotate into object being sharpened.
• Dip work into a coolant regularly to prevent overheating.
Overheating can weaken metals.
• REPLACE CRACKED OR DAMAGED GRINDING WHEEL IMMEDIATELY. A damaged wheel can discharge debris at a high velocity towards the operator. Carefully
handle the grinding wheels since they are abrasive. Prior to replacing a grinding wheel check it for cracks. Do NOT remove the blotter or label from both side
of the grinding wheel. Tighten the spindle nut just enough to hold the grinding wheel firmly to the
Bench Grinder. Do not over tighten the nut. Excessive clamp force can damage the grinding wheel. Only use the wheel flanges provided with the grinder. When
selecting a replacement grinding wheel, verify that the grinding wheel has a higher RPM rating than the maximum RPM of the Bench Grinder.
• Make sure all guards are properly attached and securely fastened.
• Make sure all moving parts are free and clear of any interference.
• Make sure all fasteners are tight and have not vibrated loose.
• With power disconnected, test operation by hand to verify clearance and adjust if necessary.
• Make sure abrasive belt tracks properly. Correct tracking gives optimum performance.
• After turning switch ON, always allow belt to come up to full speed before sanding or grinding

Replacing the abrasive belt

Sanding belt should be replaced when worn, torn, or glazed.
Loosen belt cover knobs and open belt cover.
1. Slide old belt off the idler and drive wheels.
NOTE: There may be an arrow on the inside of the belt. The arrow should point down toward the belt table to ensure that the splice in the belt will not come
apart.
2. Slide new belt over the drive and idler drums; center belt on drums.
3. Push tension lever towards drive drum to tension belt.
4. Rotate belt by hand to check tracking. Belt should ride centered on drive and idler drums. Adjust knob as needed to center belt on drums.
5. Close belt cover and tighten knobs.

Adjust tool rest position

Tool rest assembly can be adjusted from 90° to 45° position.
1. Loosen and remove knob and nut from both belt guards.
2. Tilt tool rest to desired position (from horizontal to vertical).
Secure tool rest position by tightening knob through guards.

Abrasive belt finishing

• Finishing flat surfaces: Hold workpiece firmly with both hands; keep fingers away from abrasive belt.
Use work stop. Work stop is used to position and secure work being sanded. Keep end butted against work stop and move work evenly across abrasive belt.
Use extra caution when finishing very thin pieces.
Finishing long pieces: remove work stop. Apply only enough pressure to allow abrasive belt to remove material.
• Finishing curved edges: Finish outside curves on flat portion of abrasive belt.
• Finishing end grain: It is more convenient to finish ends of long workpieces with the abrasive belt in a vertical position.
Position table on belt side of sander. Lock into position with socket head bolt and washer. Move work evenly across abrasive belt.

Maintenance

• As wheels wear, tool rests should be positioned closer to the face of the wheels.
• The gap between the wheel and the tool rest should not be greater than 1/16”. When the wheels are worn to the extent that the 1/16” maximum gap cannot
be maintained, the wheels should be replaced.
• Replacement wheels should have a minimum rated speed of at least 3600 RPM.
• Maximum wheel diameter is 6”.
• To loosen nuts holding the wheels, disconnect power and push a wood wedge between the tool rest and the wheel to keep the shaft from turning. The
threads on the right side of the grinder (facing unit) are right hand; threads on the left side are left hand. Tighten nuts securely before operating the grinder.
• For grinding efficiency, wheels should be dressed periodically, especially if they become clogged from grinding soft metals.
