6.27 Check, adjust the valve

clearance

Caution

!

Before checking the valve clearance let the en-
gine cool down for at least 30 minutes. The en-
gine oil temperature must be less than 80 °C.

Valve clearance

Intake valve

=  0,3 mm

Exhaust valve =  0,5 mm

l

Open the engine hood completely and support
it safely.

l

Remove the valve cover (Fig. 164).

Fig. 165

l

Disconnect the cable from the shut-down sole-
noid (Fig. 165).

Fig. 166

l

Crank the engine with the starter until both
valves on cylinder 1 (Fig. 166) are “overlap-
ping”.

Note

i

Overlapping means that the exhaust valve is not
yet completely closed and the intake valve starts
to open.

The valves marked black (Fig. 166) can be
checked and adjusted.

Fig. 167

l

Crank the engine with the starter until both
valves on cylinder 4 (Fig. 167) are “overlap-
ping” (360° rotation of the crankshaft).

The valves marked black (Fig. 167) can be
checked and adjusted.

l

Assemble the cylinder head cover with a new
gasket.
