5.3 Decentralised Lift Control
The bp308 is a decentralized control system, i.e. the »intelligence« is
distributed on the linked devices and does no longer exclusively take
place in a centre unit. This decentralized lift control is based on the
CANopen application profile CiA-417 (
www.CANopen-Lift.org
). It is
via this globally standardized application profile that the different
components of the lift bank communicate. The linked components
have a complete functional scheme each and are thus in a position to
make many decisions themselves. This profile enables open modular
systems that can assume very complex control tasks.
5.4 The Group System
The up-to-date group control system is equipped with a powerful 32-
bit processor able to evaluate a large variety of information from the
entire lift group within the shortest time and on this basis make the
decisions for the group operation.
The group control system guarantees the smooth operation of a
group of two to eight lifts, based on the CANopen-based application
profile CiA-417. All data and commands for all components are
provided on the bus in compliance with the standards. Each group
computer is thus able to decide on its own in which sequence and by
which group member the individual calls should be ideally processed.
The group function does not require a master computer but one may
be used optionally to expand group performance by certain special
functions such as the load-related evacuation of all lifts within one
building when using emergency power or in the case of fire or the
automatic static evaluations for determining group parameters .
Landing calls are entered via bus nodes that may be located in the
landing call unit or in the control cabinet. These nodes evaluate the
signal received and make it available to all group members at once
on the CAN Bus − as a message that states direction, priority, destin-
ation etc.).

tination etc.
If an lift no longer participates in group operation because it has been
switched to inspection mode during maintenance work, for instance,
the other group members receive this information immediately so that
it can be taken into account in the calculations. If several lifts are able
to answer a call at the same time, the lift that has been standing still
