Fit the new heater
1.
Fit the replacement heater: ensure that the heater voltage and wattage correspond with that
specified on the pump data plate.
2.
Reconnect the electrical supply wires to the heater and secure with the terminal nuts.
3.
Locate the heater on the support plate.
4.
Position the heater assembly on the retaining stud underneath the pump so that the radiation shield
is securely located in the heater assembly skirt and so that the terminal-box aligns with the backing
tube.
5.
Lightly coat the threads of the retaining stud with a suitable anti-seize compound (we recommend
that you use Never-Seez, available from BOC Edwards: see Section 7.3), then fit the retaining nut
to secure the heater assembly.
6.
Tighten the heater assembly securing nut:
•
On EO2K and EO4K pumps, tighten the nut to a torque in the range 8 to 10 Nm.
•
On EO6K pumps, tighten the nut to a torque in the range 10 to 12 Nm.
7.
Reconnect the electrical supply cable to the pump.
8.
Check the heater circuits for any abnormal earth (ground) leakage (due to insulation breakdown).
9.
Check that the earth (ground) strap is properly earthed (grounded) and secured to the terminal-
box.
10.
Refit and secure the terminal-box cover.
5.9
Check the heater securing nut
If the pump is regularly heated up and cooled down, you must regularly check that the heater securing
nut is sufficiently tight: refer to Step 6 of Section 5.8.2 for the necessary tightness.
5.10
Clean the cooling-coil
You must clean the cooling-coil at least once a year, and more frequently if the cooling-water supply has
a high calcium content.
To clean the cooling-coil, flush with a suitable descaling agent. For example:
•
Use a 15% hydrochloric acid solution for decalcification.
•
Use a 5% sodium carbonate solution for neutralization.
5.11
Fault finding
A list of fault conditions and their possible causes is provided in Table 15 to assist you in basic fault-
finding.
If problems persist, contact your supplier or your nearest BOC Edwards Service Centre.
WARNING
After you have replaced a heater, check the earth (ground) continuity and insulation
resistance before you reconnect the pump to the electrical supply.
