M TwinPower turbo engine
The M TwinPower turbo engine is a V8 high per-
formance engine. With a 4.4 litre displacement,
it creates a maximum performance of 555 hp
and a maximum torque of 500 lb ft/680 Nm.
It is marked by spontaneous response char-
acteristics and an extremely broad effective
torque range. The maximum engine speed of
6,800 rpm is electronically limited.
Drive Train
The all-wheel drive system xDrive offers a per-
manently variable torque distribution between
the front and rear axle. In conjunction with
Dynamic Performance Control and the charac-
teristic M rear-wheel drive design, the dynamics
and maneuverability in all speed ranges have
considerably been upgraded. Additionally, driv-
ing dynamics may be noticeably improved by
utilizing the M Dynamic Mode.
Driving on a race track
Prior to taking the vehicle to a race track, BMW
recommends the following:
– Participation in BMW driver training
– Have the vehicle checked at your BMW
dealership
Race track driving results in increased wear and
tear of components.
The standard brake pads and wear indicators
are not designed for use on a race track. Your
dealership will be most obliged to advise you.
When engine components are hot due to high
power demands, engine management may
reduce the output in order to protect the engine.
After a cooling off period the full engine power is
at your disposal again.
