5. Feed the new chain into the spinner starting at the left Drive
Roller and then to the left idler sprocket.
6. Feed the chain with slack behind the motor sprocket.
7. Now feed the chain to the right side of the case, first behind the
right idler sprocket and then behind the right drive roller. (If the
pipe size is 2 7/8” to 5 1/2”, you must first feed the chain to wrap
around the Idler Roller Assembly and then to the idler sprocket
assembly). (Figures 7 and 8)
8. Connect both ends of the chain with a Chain Repair Kit (9G-77AT-RK). Use a hammer to
mushroom the end of the pin securing the washer/retaining ring.
9. Re-attach the wing nuts to the Safety Side Plates (9GC-1022-34).
Drive Roller Sub Assembly
To remove one or both of the Drive Roller Sub Assemblies, the following procedure should
be used:
1. Make sure the GrayChain is off the drill pipe connection and in rest position on the
derrick.
2. Shut down the supply of power from the
source or from the shut off valve.
3. Bleed any air pressure from the
GrayChain by cycling the door valve. Position the doors to allow for slack in the chain.
4. Disconnect the GrayChain from the power source.
5. Remove the Front Pin by loosening and removing the hex jam nuts.
6. Safely remove the Drive Roller Sub Assembly.
7. To install the Drive Roller Sub Assembly or a new Drive Roller Sub Assembly, reverse the
above procedure. Prior to installation of the Front Pin, liberally coat the pin surface with
an anti-seize compound or grease. Once the installation is complete, re-grease the Front
Pin via the grease zerk. Refer to figure 10 on page 26 for the location of the Grease Zerk.
Note: If you are having trouble removing the Drive Roller,
disconnect the chain at the master link. you can then open
the doors fully for more room to work.
