BlindShell Touch is a touchscreen phone for blind and visually impaired people. It is
operated by simple gestures. Feedback is provided by the built-in synthetic voice,
by vibration and by additional acoustic signals. If you have any suggestions or other

Setting up the phone
Physical description of the device
Hold the phone in such a way, that the screen is facing towards you and the buttons
are on the right edge of the phone.

The upper, longer button, is a volume rocker. Pressing the upper part of the
button increases the volume of the voice feedback and sounds. Pressing the
lower part of this button decreases the volume. Another function of the
volume rocker is to start Voice Control or Voice dictation with a long press.

Below the volume rocker is the power button. Long pressing this button, while
the phone is switched off, will switch it on. During the phone's operation, a
short tap of the button locks and unlocks the screen. A long press of the
button serves as a home button, which will return you to the main menu.

The upper part of the display contains an earpiece, a speaker used for voice
calls.

The main speaker of the phone is located on the phone's rear side in the
bottom part.

The camera is located on the rear side as well but in the upper part.
•
USB port, which serves for charging the phone and for connecting the phone
to a computer, is located on the top edge.
•
The audio jack is located next to the USB port.
Taking off the back cover
Your BlindShell Touch phone has a removable back cover, which covers the battery
slot and SIM slots of the device. This back cover is not attached to your new phone
for your convenience. If you need to remove the back cover in the future, hook your
fingernail into the opening slit located on the bottom left corner of the phone (when
the phone is facing with its display away from you) and pull the back cover away
from the device. When refitting the phone with the back cover ensure that all the
clips around the edges are fully engaged.
Inserting a SIM card
The BlindShell Touch phone is capable of utilizing 2 SIM cards at once. Both SIM
cards have to be microSIM (medium size). To insert a SIM card into the phone, first
position the phone in front of you in a way, that the screen of the phone is facing
downwards. A rectangular hollow space which is meant for housing a battery should
now be in front of you. The top edge of this hollow space is lined with 3
indentations. Starting from the left the first two indentations are used for SIM cards,
the last one is used for an SD card. Slide your SIM card in one of the first two slots
such that the SIM card contacts are facing downwards, and its bevelled edge is its
