About switching devices
So, you're switching BlackBerry® devices? Likely, you have email addresses, contacts, and other data that you want
to move from your previous device to your new one.
You will need the following components to complete this process: your device, the BlackBerry® Desktop Software,
and any email accounts that you've added to the BlackBerry® Internet Service. You can use the process flow at the
beginning of this guide as a checklist to make sure you've covered all of the steps that you need to transfer your data.
Some of the steps documented in this guide might differ slightly depending your versions of the BlackBerry Device
Software and the BlackBerry Desktop Software. To find more information specific to your software version, visit
www.blackberry.com/go/docs .
Process flow: Switch BlackBerry devices
If you answer no to any of the questions below, skip to the next step in the process flow. If you answer yes, click the
link that follows the question to see the steps that you need to complete.
1. Do you want to move your data (for example, contacts, messages, and appointments) from your previous
BlackBerry® device to your new one? Select your version of BlackBerry® Desktop Software from the list below.
• Move data to a new device using BlackBerry Desktop Software for Windows
• Move data to a new device using BlackBerry Web Desktop Manager
• Move data to a new device using BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac
2. Does your device have a SIM card? Move your SIM card to a new device .
3. Does your device operate on CDMA networks? Contact your wireless service provider to switch devices.
4. Do you have an existing email account (for example Windows Live™ Hotmail®) that you want to move from your
previous device to your new device? Move an email address to a new device
5. Will someone else be using your previous device? For example, are you preparing your device for resale? Delete
the data from your previous device

Before you begin: Install the most recent version of the BlackBerry® Desktop Software from www.blackberry.com/
desktop .
1. Connect your new device to your computer.
2. Open the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager.
3. Click Device Switch Wizard.
4. Click Start.
