of 256 USB and/or PS/2 computers from a single KVM console.
OVERVIEW
Attach up to 8 or 16 computers to the ServSwitch
™
Panther
via ordinary UTP cable (CAT5, CAT5e, or CAT6).
Here’s how it’s installed: One end of the UTP cable
connects to the RJ-45 ports on the ServSwitch Panther. The
other end of the UTP cable connects to a ServSwitch Panther
Server Access Module installed in a PS/2
®
or USB CPU or server.
(You’ll need one ServSwitch Panther Server Access Module
and one UTP patch cable for each connected PS/2 or USB CPU
or server.) Mix and match PS/2 and USB computers in your
installation to suit your requirements.
The Panther also extends the distance between a computer
and the switch—up to 32.8 ft. (10 m). Or, cascade ServSwitch
Panthers to access up to 256 computers from a single KVM
console.
The ServSwitch works with a wide variety of industry-
standard computers. And since it uses common UTP cable,
the ServSwitch Panther keeps the cost of cables affordable.
It’s also compatible with common video monitor types.
Resolution is superior, too—up to 1600 x 1200 @ 75 Hz!
And the ServSwitch Panther works with most PC operating
systems, including DOS, Windows
®
3.x/95/98/Me/XP, Windows
NT
®
, Windows 2000, Linux
®
, UNIX
®
, QNX, SGI
™
, FreeBSD, BeOS,
VMS
™
, and Novell
®
3.12–6.x.
An easy-to-use, three-level password hierarchy is standard
with the ServSwitch Panther. Choose from administrator
(enables you to set and modify all passwords and security
profiles), supervisor (lets you access or scan any attached
computer), or user (access only the assigned computer[s]).
Operating the ServSwitch Panther is easy, too. An intuitive
on-screen display (OSD) guides you through operation. Or,
use the ServSwitch’s front-panel pushbuttons to select the
attached computer that you want to control from the KVM
console. Or, use keyboard hotkey commands instead.
We make sure that you always have access to the latest
firmware upgrades. Simply download the most recent
upgrade from the Black Box Web site (www.blackbox.com)
using the included flash cable that connects to the switch’s
flash port.
