RISC ROUTER EXPANDABLE
2.4 RISC Bridge/E Expansion Card
The RISC Bridge/E Expansion Card (LB521C) has three interface ports:
A Media Attachment Unit (MAU) interface, a Data Terminal Equipment
(DTE) interface and a Thin Net (BNC) interface. The interface you choose
is automatically configured when you connect a cable to it. Only one interface
per card is configurable at a time. The RISC Router Expandable has eight
total expansion slots that can be configured in any combination. A
description of each interface follows below.
1. Data Terminal Equipment (DTE) Interface —
The DTE interface is a
15-pin female Thick Ethernet connector with a standard locking slide
clip. This connector is an Attachment Unit Interface (AUI) interface
that meets the 10BASE5 specification. The pin assignments for this
connector are the same as those on the MAU port and are listed in
the Table 2-3.
2. BNC (Thin Net) Interface —
The BNC connector is an IEEE 802.3
Ethernet specification connector used for Thin Ethernet LAN
connection. This connector has built-in transceiver circuitry and
provides a direct connection to a ThinNet network.
3. Terminator Switch —
This switch terminates the Ethernet connection.
In the ON position, the BNC connection is terminated. The switch is
ON when it points towards the word “TERM” on the back panel.
When the switch is OFF, the connection is not terminated. The switch
is OFF when it points away from the word “TERM” on the back panel.
NOTE
If you are using a BNC “T” adapter and two sections of coaxial cable
to terminate your Ethernet connection, the “TERM” switch must be OFF.
4. Media Attachment Unit (MAU) Connector —
This is a 15-pin male
Ethernet transceiver connector. This connector has built-in transceiver
circuitry and provides a direct-connect (DCE) to a workstation DTE port.
The pin assignments for this connector are the same as those on the DTE
port and are listed in Table 2-2.
