7. Grease cap
Assembly
Warning!
Before assembly, make sure that the tool is
switched off and unplugged.
Fitting the side handle (fig. A)
u
Turn the grip counterclockwise until you can slide the side
handle (5) onto the front of the tool as shown.
u
Rotate the side handle into the desired position.
u
Tighten the side handle by turning the grip clockwise.
Note:
the side handle can be positioned, depending on
personal preference.
Fitting and setting the depth stop (fig. A)
u
Slacken the knob (5b).
u
Insert the depth stop (6) into the mounting hole (5a) as
shown.
u
Set the depth stop (6) to the desired position. The maxi-
mum drilling depth is equal to the distance between the tip
of the drill bit and the front end of the depth stop.
u
Tighten the knob (5b).
Fitting an accessory
(fig. B)
This tool is fitted with a quick release chuck to allow for an
easy exchange of bits.
u
Pull back the sleeve (4a) and insert the accessory (8) into
the tool holder (4).
u
Push the accessory (8) down and turn it slightly until it fits
into the slots.
u
Pull on the accessory to check if it is properly locked. The
hammering function requires the accessory to be able to
move axially several centimetres when locked in the tool
holder.
u
To remove the accessory, pull back the sleeve (4a) and
pull out the accessory.
Fitting the keyed chuck (fig. C)
u
Fit the shank of the supplied chuck (9) into the tool holder
as described above.
Warning!
Never use keyed chucks in the hammer drilling
mode.
Fitting accessories in the keyed chuck (fig. D)
u
Open the chuck by turning the sleeve (10).
u
Insert the accessory (11) into the chuck.
u
Insert the chuck key (12) into each hole in the side of the
chuck (13) and turn until tight.

Warning!
Let the tool work at its own pace. Do not overload.
Warning!
Before drilling into walls, floors or ceilings, check for
the location of wiring and pipes.
Selecting the drilling mode (fig. E)
u
To select a drilling mode, push button 3a and rotate the
selector to the required setting.
u
For Impact drilling in masonry and concrete, set the
drilling mode selector (3) to the
qr
position.
u
For drilling in steel, wood and plastics set the
drilling
mode selector (3) to the
r
position.
u
For chiselling mode set the drilling mode selector (3) to
the
q
position.
Switching on and off
u
To switch the tool on, press the On/Off switch (1). Set
the variable speed control knob (2) to the required speed
range.
u
As a general rule, use low speeds for large diameter drill
bits and high speeds for smaller diameter drill bits.
u
To switch the tool off, release the On/Off switch.
Always hold the tool as shown in figure H.

Maintenance
Your BLACK+DECKER corded/cordless appliance/tool has

minimum of maintenance. Continuous satisfactory operation
depends upon proper tool care and regular cleaning.
Warning!
Before performing any maintenance on corded/
cordless power tools:
u
Switch off and unplug the appliance/tool.
u
Or switch off and remove the battery from the appliance/
tool if the appliance/tool has a separate battery pack.
u
Or run the battery down completely if it is integral and then
switch off.
u
Unplug the charger before cleaning it. Your charger does
not require any maintenance apart from regular cleaning.
u
Regularly clean the ventilation slots in your appliance/tool/
charger using a soft brush or dry cloth.
u
Regularly clean the motor housing using a damp cloth. Do
not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner.
u
Regularly open the chuck and tap it to remove any dust
from the interior (when fitted).
Mains plug replacement (U.K. & Ireland only)
If a new mains plug needs to be fitted:
u
Safely dispose of the old plug.
u
Connect the brown lead to the live terminal in the new
plug.
u
Connect the blue lead to the neutral terminal.
