Proper Hand Position (Fig. J)
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of serious
personal injury,
ALWAYS
use proper hand position
as shown.
Convert to Edging Mode (Fig. N–P)
CAUTION:
The wheeled edge guide should
only be used when in the edging mode.
The trimmer can be used in trimming mode or edging mode
to trim overhanging grass along lawn edges and flower beds.
For edging, the trimmer head should be in the position
shown in Fig. P. If it is not:
1. Remove the battery from the trimmer.
2. Grasp the flip-to-edge collar
7
and push down as shown
in Fig. N.
3. Rotate the flip-to-edge collar
7
180° counterclockwise
as shown in Fig. O, until the handle snaps back into the
upper half of the trimmer.
4. To return to trimming position, pull the flip-to-edge
collar
7
down and rotate the head clockwise back to its
original position.
nOTE
: You will experience faster than normal cutting line
wear if the trimmer line is positioned directly over the
sidewalk or abrasive surface.
Edging Mode Operation (Fig. P)
WARNING:
When being used as an edger,
stones, pieces of metal and other objects can be thrown
out at high speed by the line. The trimmer and guard
are designed to reduce the danger. However, MAKE
SURE that other persons and pets are at least 100 feet
(30m) away. Optimum cutting results are achieved on
edges deeper than 2 inches (50 mm).
• Do not use this trimmer to create trenches.
• Using the edging wheel
9
, guide the trimmer as shown
in Fig. P.
• Position the edging wheel
9
on the edge of the sidewalk
or abrasive surface so the cutting line is over the grass or
dirt area to be edged.
• To make a closer cut, slightly tilt the trimmer.
Trimming (Fig. J–M)
1. With the trimmer on, angle it and swing side to side as
shown in Fig. J.
2. Maintain a cutting angle of 5 ° to 10 °. Do not exceed 10 °.
3. Cut with the tip of the line.
4. Maintain a minimum distance of 24" (610 mm) between
the guard and your feet as shown in Fig. M.
Speed Control Switch (Fig. A, I, Q)
This string trimmer gives you the choice to operate at a
more efficient speed to extend the runtime for larger jobs, or
accelerate the trimmer speed for high-performance cutting.
To accelerate the trimmer,
push the speed control
switch
4
forward toward the auxillary handle
5
into the "HI"
position. This mode is best to cut through heavier growth
and for applications that need higher RPM.
To extend runtime
, pull the speed control switch back
toward the battery housing
21
into the "LO" position. This
mode is best for larger projects that require more time
to complete.
nOTE:
When in "HI" mode, runtime will be decreased as
compared to when trimmer is in "LO" mode.
Switching Trimmer On and Off (Fig. A)
WARNING:
Never attempt to lock the
trigger in the on position.
1. To turn the appliance on, press the lock-off button
2
and then squeeze the trigger switch
1
. Once the unit is
running, you may release the lock-off button.
2. To turn the appliance off, release the trigger.
Installing and Removing the Battery Pack
(Fig. I)
WARNING:
Ensure the tool/appliance is in
the off position before inserting the battery pack.
nOTE:
For best results, make sure your battery pack is
fully charged.
1. To install the battery pack
12
into the tool handle, align
the battery pack with the rails inside the tool’s handle
and slide it into the handle until the battery pack is firmly
seated in the tool and ensure that it does not disengage.
2. To remove the battery pack from the tool, press the
battery release button
13
and firmly pull the battery
pack out of the tool handle. Insert it into the charger as
described in the charger section of this manual.
Helpful Cutting Tips (Fig. R)
• Use the tip of the string to do the cutting; do not force
string head into uncut grass. Use edge guide along such
things as fences, houses and flower beds for best practices.
OPERATION
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of serious
personal injury, turn unit off and remove the
battery pack before making any adjustments or
removing/installing attachments or accessories,
when replacing line, or prior to cleaning.
An
accidental start‑up can cause injury.
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of serious
personal injury,
ALWAYS
hold securely in anticipation
of a sudden reaction.
Proper hand position requires one hand on the main
handle
3
and one hand on the auxiliary handle
5
.
