Installing the Smart Strip
LIGHTED POWER SWITCH
This lighted switch is also a 15 Amp circuit breaker. It is normally left on. If it’s not lit, turn it on, reset it, or try a different outlet.
GROUND INDICATOR
When this is lit, your equipment is properly grounded & protected. If it is not lit, please try another outlet.
SURGE INDICATOR
When this is lit, your equipment is protected. If it is not, the surge protection has failed. Check http://bitsltd.net/FAQ for details.
CONTROLLED OUTLETS INDICATOR
When this is lit, the ENERGY-SAVING CONTROLLED OUTLETS are on.
MASTER OUTLET
Plug your TV or computer here. This outlet manages the ENERGY-SAVING CONTROLLED OUTLETS. If the device plugged in here is on,
they are on. If it is off, they are also off.
ALWAYS ON OUTLETS
Plug your cable box, satellite receiver, DVR, fax, or cable modem here. These outlets will only turn off with the POWER SWITCH.
ENERGY-SAVING CONTROLLED OUTLETS
Plug in all of your other accessories here. These will turn on or off automatically with the device that is plugged in the MASTER OUTLET.
When the device plugged in to the MASTER OUTLET is off, everything here is electronically unplugged & saving you energy.
Setting the Sensitivity Adjustment
You may need to adjust the Smart Strip’s sensitivity. This is easy to calibrate with a finger nail or a small screwdriver.
Please wait 2 seconds in between adjustments as some devices may cause a delay before Smart Strip responds.
If the CONTROLLED OUTLETS never turn on:
1. Turn on the device that is plugged into the MASTER OUTLET.
2. Turn the ADJUST dial clockwise in small increments until the CONTROLLED OUTLETS turn on.
3. Turn off the device in the MASTER OUTLET; If the CONTROLLED OUTLETS turn off, you’re done.
If the CONTROLLED OUTLETS never turn off:
1. Turn off the device that is plugged into the MASTER OUTLET.
2. Turn the ADJUST dial counterclockwise in small increments until the CONTROLLED OUTLETS turn off.
3. Turn on the device that is on the MASTER OUTLET; if the CONTROLLED OUTLETS turn on, you’re done.
Important Notes:
- If the above procedure does not work or you have further questions, please consult our web site.
- The ADJUST dial is only a 1 turn dial; please do not force it.
- Some computers take 2 minutes before they enter sleep mode. Adjustments should not be made during this time.
- Risk of electric shock. Do not plug into another relocatable power tap.
The 3rd Generation Smart Strip works with the following devices in the MASTER OUTLET:
- All computers & home entertainment equipment
- All workshop equipment
- 25 Watt or greater incandescent lamps
- 5 Watt or greater fluorescent lamps
