4 - Run Setup for Connected RS-485 Devices
Run setup for RS-485 devices (profiles) connected to ProtoNode RER (Auto Discovery).
There may be some RS-485 devices that are not discoverable. These devices must be set up by the Web Configurator. See Section 1.2
for information on which devices can be Auto Discovered.
4.1 - Run Auto Discovery
When installing the ProtoNode for the first time, run Auto Discovery for all RS-485 devices connected to the ProtoNode. This process
will automatically discover all discoverable RS-485 devices and then build/load the configuration file.
The following chart describes the S3 DIP switch setting for enabling Auto Discovery of known devices attached to the ProtoNode RER.
•
Set S3 DIP switch to the On position to Auto Discover any of the products attached to the ProtoNode (
make sure power is off when
setting the switch)
.
•
When the ProtoNode is wired to the Modbus devices, turn on the power. It will take three (3) minutes to discover all Modbus RTU
devices attached to the ProtoNode.
•
After the ProtoNode has discovered all of the Modbus RTU devices, set the S3 DIP switch to the OFF position to turn off.
•
S3 DIP switch in the Off position will load the existing saved file.
•
If the S3 DIP switch is not set to the Off position after an Auto Discover, the ProtoNode will go through the Auto Discovery looking for
new devices to discover after every power up. Any devices discovered from past discoveries will remain loaded in the memory. The
ProtoNode will not duplicate any discovered devices. See Section 6 to remove any existing discovered devices.
