4.1 RIGHT-HAND CRANKCASE
Heat the crankcase in an oven to 150c°. Fit the ball
bearings into their housings (main bearing 1, main-
shaft bearing 2, layshaft bearing 3, gear selector
drum bearing 4), and drive them home with a press
and suitable mandrels, taking care that the crank-
case is resting on a flat surface throughout. The
housing for the needle roller bearing (gearchange
shaft 5), does not have a stop: it can be located
flush with either surface of the crankcase half.
If after the crankcase has cooled down, the outer
race of one of the bearings tends to spin in its hous-
ing, the crankcase itself must be replaced.
N.B. Before refitting the bearings, check the state of
wear of the revolving parts and make sure that the
balls run correctly in their tracks in the bearing.
While the crankcase is still hot, use a press to fit
the shaft (6) for the kickstart idler gear on the right-
hand side.
Fit the breather nozzle (7), applying medium-
strength thread lock to the threads.
Fit the oil jets (8) and secure the selector drum
bearing (4) with its retaining bolts (9), applying
medium-strength thread lock tightening these to 10
Nm.
